How to play Bullshit, the bluffing trivia game
Bullshit is a party game of trivia and bluffing that you play in your phone's browser, with no download and no sign-up. Every round shows a weird but true fact with one word missing. Each player makes up a fake answer that sounds believable, and then all the answers are mixed together with the real one. You score by finding the truth, and by fooling everyone else with your lie.
How a round works
- Get a fact. A completely true sentence appears with a gap, for example: "An octopus has ____ hearts".
- Make up a lie. You have a minute to type a word or phrase that fills the gap convincingly. Stuck? Let the game make one up for you, for half the points.
- Find the truth. All the lies are shown together with the real answer, shuffled. Everyone picks what they think is true. You can't pick your own lie.
- The reveal. The game reveals each lie, who fell for it and who wrote it, and finally the truth, with a short explanation.
- Scores. After every round you see who's leading. After the last round, the winner is crowned.
Scoring
| What happened | Points |
|---|---|
| You found the true answer | 1,000 |
| Another player picked your lie | 500 for each player |
| Another player picked a lie the game made up for you | 250 for each player |
| Final round | Everything counts double |
A great lie can be worth more than the right answer: if three friends fall for it, that's 1,500 points in a single round.
Three ways to play
- A room with friends. Tap "Create a room", choose 5, 8 or 12 rounds, and send your friends the four-digit code or an invite link. Everyone plays on their own phone, even if you're not in the same place.
- Play now. A list of public rooms waiting for players, in English and in Hebrew. Join with one tap. The game starts and moves on by itself, and you can even join a game in progress from the next round.
- Play on one device. Pass one phone around, or put the game on a big screen for the living room or a classroom.
Tips for a winning lie
- Match the shape of the answer. If the gap wants a number, write a number. A lie that doesn't fit the sentence gives itself away.
- Don't be too funny. A hilarious lie gets laughs, not points. The lies that score best sound like dry facts.
- Know your friends. The one who always picks the weirdest option will fall for a weird lie. The careful one falls for a reasonable one.
- When guessing, remember: sometimes the least likely answer is the truth. That's exactly what makes a fact interesting enough to be in the game.
